I want to make my own OOAK doll. Can you give me any tips?

I will soon be offering step-by-step guides and video tutorials to help others who are interested in learning how to create their own OOAK dolls. In the meantime, please check out my blog for tips and tricks.

How do I care for my OOAK?

One-of-a-kind dolls are not designed to be played with or handled on a consistent basis. These are collectible dolls that have delicate details. It is recommended to keep your doll in a protective display case or in the box that is included with the doll.

Be sure to keep your doll free of dust, and use a damp cloth to blot away any dirt or spots on the doll or the clothing. Do not use chemical cleaners on the doll as these might strip the paint or harm the vinyl.

I want a OOAK doll of my baby or child. Can you make one?

At this time, I am not able to create OOAK dolls for infants or toddlers. In some cases, I may be able to create dolls based on children and tweens / teens. Please e-mail me with details about the doll you’d like to commission, and I can let you know what options are available.

How much does it cost to commission a OOAK doll?

Prices vary according to the type of doll and the level of detail involved. Typically, commission prices for a basic OOAK doll start at:

  • $50 for a Kelly or Tommy doll
  • $125 for Barbie-type dolls (including Monster High, Jakks Pacific, and Lollipop Dolls)
  • $150 for Fashion Royalty dolls
  • $300 for Tonner dolls

Options such as re-rooting, body sculpting, multiple outfits, extensive beading, and special accessories can increase the price.

Bridal dolls (including grooms) have special pricing due to the level of detail required in the costuming and portraiture. Bridal doll pricing is as follows:

  • Brides: $700
  • Grooms: $500
  • Adult attendants: $500
  • Child attendants: $300

Tonner dolls will be used for all wedding party dolls.

How long will it take to commission a OOAK doll?

The time frame will depend on the type of doll you are commissioning and the details involved. However, most dolls can be completed in 4 to 6 weeks once the initial deposit is received.

If you would like to commission a doll as a gift and need to receive it sooner than that, please e-mail me to ask about rush orders.

How do I commission a OOAK doll?

Please contact me with information about the doll you want to create, including photos of the person, the outfit, and any other details you have available. I will then provide a price quote for your commission, and a 50% deposit will be required to begin.

Once I receive your deposit, I will get started on your doll. I will e-mail you throughout the process as I have questions, and I will provide color photographs of your doll upon completion.

What is a commission?

A commission is a doll that I create especially for you.

What is a OOAK doll?

“OOAK” stands for “one-of-a-kind.” A one-of-a-kind doll is just that: One-of-a-kind. That means the doll will not be recreated, and you will own a truly custom doll that will be unique to your collection.

All my one-of-a-kind dolls have been repainted with quality acrylic paints and sealers, then they either receive a total reroot or hair restyle, a custom-tailored outfit and handcrafted accessories. All dolls are accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity, as well as a display stand and box.
